The Driving Test.
In East Lothian there are two driving test centres, namely at Haddington and Musselburgh. Luffness School of Motoring are based closer to Haddington and most of our pupils sit their driving test there, however we do have pupils who take their driving tests at Musselburgh.
The driving test is split into two parts. The Theory Test and the Practical Driving Test. Both are explained below.
Part One - The Theory Test
The following video from the DSA explains the Theory Test that all learner drivers wishing to pass their driving test must complete before sitting their actual driving test. Press the on screen button to play it.
Theory Test Part 1 - Multiple Choice.
you will be asked 50 questions in 57 minutes.
The pass mark is 43 out of 50.
Theory Test Part 2 - Hazard Perception
14 film clips, each has at least one "developing hazard". You respond to the hazard as you see it happening. The earlier you react the better.
To pass you need 44 points out of 75.
Part Two - The Practical Driving Test
The Practical Driving Test lasts about 40 minutes. The driving examiner will start by asking the pupil for proof of their identity, test their eyesight and ask then two questions from "show me, tell me".
During the driving test the examiner assesses the pupils driving ability and tests their knowledge and skills on driving topics. If during the test the pupil Commits one serious or fifteen minor faults and they will fail. The examiner can stop your driving test at any point.
All test routes are designed to include a range of typical road and traffic conditions. Being based in East Lothian and conducting driving lessons on the roads where these routes are located Luffness School of Motoring are experienced in the routes you might encounter during your driving test.
